HOW COOL WOULD IT BE IF...?

Steve Danuser and Jamie Gotch — Live in Philadelphia!

GameX Industry Summit

The GameX Industry Summit took place this past Saturday and Sunday, October 24th-25th, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Summit was hosted by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA)'s chapters from New York, New Jersey, Boston, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, and was aimed at giving game industry professionals a venue for sharing information and experiences, and making connections. 38’s Steve Danuser was part of a panel on Saturday from 4-5pm titled, “Beyond Raids and Ganks: Exploring Next-Gen MMOs in a non WoW-killer Context.” The panel, which included Damon Alberts, president/CEO of Burst Online Entertainment; Lee Hammock, lead game designer of Fallen Earth; and moderated by Alexander Macris, president/CEO of Themis Group, discussed how to create MMOs that are innovative and push the boundaries of established concepts. Steve noted, “Our varied backgrounds made for a very diverse panel. The similarities in our answers were as interesting as the different perspectives each of us brought to the table.” On Sunday from 5:15-6:15pm, Jamie Gotch participated in a panel focused on iPhone games, addressing the question, “How do you create a marketable, profitable game that will stand out in the ever-growing crowd of iPhone apps?” According to Jamie, the hottest topic of the panel was App Store pricing, which consumed more than half of the talk. All panelists voiced their concerns about pricing, how it has affected each of them, and gave some insight into how they are combating the problem. Thanks, as always, to everyone who attended the panels! We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
