Curt Schilling joined other notable speakers at the second annual MIT Sloan School of Management's Business in Gaming Conference (BiG) held last week at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge. The founder and chairman of 38 Studios and his fellow panelists participated in a spirited discussion about the state of the video game industry in Massachusetts. The April 16th panel, entitled "Mass Effect: The State of the Video Game Industry in Massachusetts" attracted a standing room only crowd. Questions posed to the panelists covered such topics as tax incentives, Boston's advantages over other cities, the quality of talent in the state, the state's commitment to top quality video game education, the cost of living in Massachusetts and the enforcement of non-compete agreements. According to its website, the conference is unique in that it focuses on the business side of the video game world. It brings together industry leaders, game developers, game designers, academics, and students from leading MBA schools and facilitated discussions of the latest business trends and future direction of the video game industry.
